笔记:Brain-rechanneling, take sides, VAMA & fair pay
#Brain-Rechanneling. We may be unable to change our emotions in the short time being. The same thing keeps triggering us. However, we can always change how we react. Just like Taylor. She stops not eating when feeling threatened by photos without flat bellies. Instead, she eats, exercises, and just ignores. We may gradually change how we feel through long-term mental training and enlightenment.
#Rebuild how you feel happy. Even though we normal people do not build our happiness on others' appraisal as superstars, a lot of us do build our happiness and sense of self-worth on important others' recognition, like that of parents, friends, spouses, etc. The problem is that their evaluation system will change and one day suddenly we will be unable to score high. And it's important for us to still feel happy without others' recognition. Still keep doing things we value and believe. Feel the pure happiness out of the process of creation and adventure itself.
#Be nice vs. Stand for what you believe. Those who do not have enemies, do not have allies as well.
#Idols' political influence. 51,308 new registrations within 24 hrs after one tweet. Voter turnout for that campaign spiked sevenfold.
#Blackburn against VAMA (Violence Against Women Act). VAMA is a federal law. In 2012 VAMA went through the fourth renewal where it tried to extend benefits to LGBT and undocumented immigrants. Blackburn stated that this renewal version would dilute funds that ought to be used especially for women in trouble. This vote probably signified more that Blackburn went against LGBT no matter what it cost. I don’t buy the statement that she’s against women in general. That’s just a very unrealistic stance for a politician. However, she might temporarily comprise the rights of a fraction of women to win herself some favor, by claming that this act is not the right way.
#Blackburn against fair pay. That act will make it easier for employees to file lawsuits against employers for discrimination. In her perspective, the Equal Pay Act is a legislative overreach and is detrimental to the business. Women would rather fight for fair pay themselves. This argument sounds similar to that of Roe.
#Reinvention with limitation
Be new to us, be young to us
But only in a new way and only in the way we want
And reinvent yourself
but only in a way that we find to be equally comforting
and also a challenge for you
Live out a narrative
that we find to be interesting enough to entertain us
but not so crazy that it makes us uncomfortable
Q:
1. What kind of beneficial acts protect women in the wrong way?
2. The dominant Christian value on homosexuality in conservative states - need status quo
