A very good and impressive documentary
Mansky filmed the election campaign of Putin after President Boris Yeltsin resigned on the New Year of 2000 and made him the Acting President and the beginnings of Putin’s rule after he became president in May 2000. In a similar way as Raymond Depardon who filmed the campaign of Giscard d’Estaing in France in 1974 (his film was later censored by the new president). It’s unbelievable to see how Putin and Yeltsin let Mansky film everything and how the filmmaker even intervened sometimes (for example telling Yeltsin “How about calling Vladimir Vladimirovich?" after Putin was elected president, who never called Yeltsin back…). It is also unbelievable to hear young Putin’s words that are in complete contradiction with the way he is ruling his country now.
