Rafe and Danny are good friends when they are young, they both show great interest in aviating. When they grow up, they serve as the US Air Force in Hawaii. At that time, it’s just during the WWII, their life stories are greatly influenced by the war. Rafe goes to Europe to support the Britain, he is shot down in one war. So everyone thinks Rafe is dead, including Evelyn, Rafe’s girlfriend. Danny comes to Evelyn to comfort her, while they fall in love with each other as time goes by. But one day, Rafe returns, he is still alive. Fafe’s appearance makes Danny, Evelyn and himself entangled. Just at that time, December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbour is attacked by Japanese in the morning. Rafe and Danny get military exploits that day for destorying 7 enemy planes. And they are selected by the president to fulfill a revenge attack to Japan, but Danny sacrifices himself to his nation, leaving his pregnant girlfriend and Rafe.
It’s a historical movie and this part of history is presented through the story of the 3 young people. Their love, friendship and companionship. Love during the war-time is small but somehow great, a person during the war is both vulnerable and endurable. Being a pilot at that time, one can’t decide his life. So do they, and that’s also why these 3 people have complicated relations. They have their own emotions, once the war breaks out, they must get ready to fight and leave everything behind. Living in the war-time, they have to be ready to bear any changes that occur, even the losing of life. Looking at their stories, we can conclude that their stories are just some typical ones during the war-time. There are a lot of soldiers, their family and friends have the same experience in many different countries.
Now, we are living a peaceful life in China, we do not know what the life could be if there are wars. We just take it granted that the peace is ours, so we start to complain a lot about the life. It is man who treasure what he doesn't have and ignore what he already gets. Let’s just cherish what we own now.
