I love it I love it.
I was so touched by the detailed elaboration on these masterpieces, just as I was stuck to my vey soul by the highly sensitive perception of Simon Schama. Every close-up was wonderfully portrayed, as they were, after all these centuries, proving to us once again, that art transends time and space.
I remember someone told me that art is merely self-indulgent. Not until I finished watching this collection, I felt that way too. Now I think very differently. I marvel about the artwork, the life these artists led, their up-and-downs, struggles, emotions and many more. The beauty captured under these artistic hands is, undoubtedly, extraodinary. So are their sufferings. Every artist suffer from his acute senses, until their passion burnt out and their emotions drained. A great artist, a master so to speak, must be able to undertake unfathomable pain, not pleasure, nor self-flattery, to reach the top.
So what makes art great? The answer: Humanity.
