They are conflicted, cruel and somewhat a bit pathetic. They are very proud of the killings that brought them power and prestige, and they don't mind if their children know about them. But they're also remorseful. In the film, they don't actually say sorry, but they are repentant throughout. When he taught his grandson to apologize to the ducklings, was he also apologizing to those people he had killed in the past? But how could they allow themselves to apologize? Apology is suicide. Apology is equivalent to completely tearing up an excuse they hardly found when every previous nightmare came. It is not he documentary find them, but actually they are so lucky that wait for this documentary. For them, this film is a way of sorting things out. It's redemption. Why should they be so lucky? Why can they have chance to wait for this redemption?
