To Ivy

Watching the Gossip Girl series again was reminiscent of my childhood when I was really fascinated by New York and its style of living. I didn't understand English by then, but we have Chinese subtitles thanks to those passionate translators who threw themself into this project that brought no monetary payback.
I have intuitively fallen in love with some characters by then without knowing the reasons why, probably because of the cultural barrier, but now I know it better. Among all, I found Ivy Dickens an underappreciated character in the Gossip Girl series, and I want to dedicate this review to her.
Born in a broken family in Florida, she was paid by Carol, Lily's sister and Serena's aunt, to pretend to be her daughter, Charlie Rhodes, and get Carol access to her real daughter's trust fund. So yes, she is an imposter and that could be a federal felony.
But I still found her particularly intriguing. She is, of course, an unwise imposter because she didn't really care about the money. She just wanted to be loved. and to have a family. I think I fell in love with her when she tore the 1 million check Lily gave her, as she wanted no money but love.
I am so sympathetic for her troubling upbringing. Her grandmother died of cancer and her dad died in front of her because of OD when she was 8. She worked in the cafe to survive if it weren't for Carol's payment. Initially a job but later she began to love the family as if she were a member. She cares about Cece just as if she were her real grandmother, so no wonder Cece decided to leave her all her legacies.
The rejection from Serena's family made me realize how fake the upper east side is, so it probably that is why I didn't love those people at all. For one moment they were kind and lovely but for the next they threanted to call the police. Lily even bribed the nurse to make the will annulled so she can take the money that is supposed to be Ivy's.
She told Carol, "You can take all the money if you want, I just want a family." That almost made me cry. Oh poor Ivy don't you know that the peole you care so much about one day will call you white trash and tramp when your real identity was revealed?
