Comedy is Hard
Once again, another lighthearted comedy to fill my listless soul with joy. I absolutely love Brad Pitt’s short but remarkable presentation, which amusingly contrasts with his serious appearance. Without exaggeration, Brad Pitt’s 10-minute performance is about 50 percent of the movie’s jokes. Sandra Bullock, also accidentally discovering her comedic potential, depicts a self-centered intellect who slowly learns to let go of her trauma and hubris, and appreciate her loved ones.
Besides these, the film barely reaches the bar. Channing and Sandra’s chemistry is apparent but not convincing. Moreover, Alan’s immature and guileless characteristics is somehow added with a sudden canniness towards life, which is just contradicting. Lastly, the plot is just plain - several times the film sprinkle Beth’s completely unrelated solo slapsticks for the sake of time, and I am routinely distracted by sleepiness. Overall, a slightly below-average comedy.
