Oh, working with Leslie was heaven… heaven. What a strong, brilliant actor, yet how easily he seemed to accomplish it, always taking time to encourage me, co ease me into a role that would be another big step away from exotica. We grew very fond of one another on that picture. I mean, it could have been a real scrambola – if I´d allowed it to be. Leslie was far more impetuous than this gentle screen image indicated. That cold, lean exterior belied a passionate nature, which manifested itself on the set. I resisted the temptation, so he stormed my house , imploring me to run away with him to the South Seas, He really wanted to chuck everything and take it off. And on´t think he wasn´t persuasive. But he was married, and I didn´t go for that sort of thing. Besides Arthur, who happened to be in New York on business, returned in the nick of time. But, oh, I loved Leslie.
