Norman Lear, television writer and producer, created a series of tv shows initially based on successful British comedies, evolved into tv with depth and purpose, shows seemed to be simple half-hour sitcoms, shows addressed serious issues of race and class in America. Hated canned laughter machine, revived practice of shooting with live audience.
