根据 Bible，世界是由 Word构成的，Word是世界的本体，物质是 Word的显化。 诚然，人类也有使用 words的能力，而人类对于事物的Name（命名），对于真理的言说都是在使用 words，可是，我们使用的 words并不是神的 Word ，我们使用的是从本体下达到世俗层的“言说能力”（The ability to use words），而不是作为宇宙的源代码的 Word 本身。虽然表面上相似，但我们要说的话语是形而下的 word，是能为人类所掌握的word，它是本体Word的 shadow和 imitation。 然而，人们会误会，他们以为：The world is made of Word. So when we attach a name to a thing we reveal the Truth（the Word per se）hidden behind that thing. However , we forget that the words we use to name a thing is not the Word God uses to create the thing into being. 我们对事物的命名所使用的是形而下的语言，是对本体 Word的模拟，但是我们却误以为我们所模拟出的命名比事物本身更真实，因为 Name bears the same Form the Word that creates the world has.所以从基督教的世界观上看，表面上讲，一个事物的名字的确比一个事物的实际存在本身似乎更接近于真理～这就是我们最大的误解了。 这部剧探讨的其实都是人对自以为掌握了Truth的傲慢和执着，对 Reason（理性）的不切实际的期待和依赖。豪赫尔禁止旁人去接触他觉得不应该看的书籍，宗教裁判员任意审判他人为异端～他们都以为自己掌握了 Truth，可是他们抓住的不过是幻影。 实际的秩序： Truth（God’s Word from with the world comes to be）——Things——human’s words by which we are trying so hard to get grasp of the Truth hidden behind the thing, while unfortunately we are destined to fail to some extent, because we are unable to reach the realm beyond us where the Word of God resides. 既然我们对真理的言说终究只能是一种主观理解，是对真理的模拟，而不是真理本身，那么为什么我们不允许别人对我们所自以为是的主观理解出来的、必定有存在讹误和偏差的真理版本进行 Laugh呢？所以最后威廉说：我们对真理的言说和阐释不过是通往真理本身的梯子，梯子即便有用，但终究意义上梯子自己也没有独立自主的意义呀，又何必这样维护它呢？所以最终智者的 mission应该是 makes people laugh at truth, to make truth laugh.
