Because she never truly loved Benjamin.remember that day when Benjamin came to ask her father's permission to marry her, Midge woke up in a dream that Joel make a crazy proposal to her. The dream means midge is prefer romance and insanity,but Benjamin is so sensitive and reasonable. Benjamin would be a good husband. But midge had no interests in being someone'wife when she got a great opportunity to improve her comic career.

Got the same feeling until I watched S3.... Midge thought J understand her talk show dream more than B does... but she never tried to talk about this with B...
I guess the writer just wanted to show that Midge is silly also not just when she talks.

Actually Joel is kinda a NICE man, especially when standing by his wife in front of so many friends, it really attacks me a lot (though hooking up with Penny Pan seems to be the past, whatever it’s not in China, audiences can always be made sense...) about the poor Dr.Benjamin, nothing touching, then quit.
Remember me of 「life is a eating shit show」line, it’s kinda like that feeling.
