总的来说，有点张彻，Richard Harris相当于姜大卫，James Coburn类似陈观泰。但是，Charlton Heston实在太八路军干部了，无法让人信服。另外，血浆跟慢镜都不够啊。

叙事有些流水帐，但人物塑造和情节均有一定观赏性。

佩金帕的「浪漫式叙事手法」总是夹杂了太多如今看来非常冗长和不必要的铺成，以及对于情感的刻画完全不是其所长，却还要自以为是的渲染，如果从西部历史片的角度（本片也不断用一种半纪实的风格来自我营造）来看也是充满某种「私人叙述」，总之是一部面目模糊且个人风格暧昧的作品。
