Writing as a student of animation design:
It is truely too nostalgic to compare a movie to its previous one since 15 years has passed, but the Incredible 2 is definitely not impressive enough to be the continue of the classic. I know it is hard to survive in this world of creativity and remix now, where realisation of imagination or a single fancy idea could be realised digitally as long as you have money. Pixar had the privilege. However for the featuring movies like supermen, the first ones that came up in one’s mind, turns out to be those of Marvel’s or DC’s. It has been rooted in the audience mind that is where super-héros originate. The Incredibles, unless being made with Pixar-style emotional moving story, will lose its taste. In fact, it is a family emotional story, but how unfortunate, Despicable Me has taken the advantage of the hashtag of “thefamilyadventurousentertainingmovie”. Pixar now needs to seek for a place no one has ever touched in order to retain the essence of animated movies. The awe of creativity with some high spirits is to be embedded.
There is also an existing question for myself regards to the constantly emerging commercial movies, what is the ultimate goal that you want to achieve? To make a movie that people like to watch or a movie that people would like to watch? And eventually, how am I going to achieve it?
