Love all the mentions of what's geeky during the past few decades, from video games to movies. I enjoyed the film so much I didn't even notice that two-plus hours have passed. Though I must confess, I haven't watched The Shining either; like Aech (who is a lesbian in the book and that wasn't that clearly shown), I don't watch horror films because I get scared really easily.
But the thing is, it reminded me of the bruhaha over Second Life, which eventually fizzled out. And I'm not sure that many kids that far into the future would still appreciate stuff we grew up with. I mean, there are preciously few people who watch silent films, for example. Then again, we listen to podcasts and they aren't that different from a radio show that was put online.
But hey, what do I know. I didn't even know it was a novel first until I watched the movie.
