SUCH A BRILLIANT FILM AND SUCH SUPERB ACTING!!! This movie holds so much suspense that I have to pause occasionally to recover my breath and to remove myself from the abyss that the movie is leading me towards. It disturbs me, for it reveals to me how a person falls. I hate to see how Virgil rids himself of his layers of protection, opens himself up to Claire, to Robert, and meet his own fate. That pains me much, for I see how a man so strong behave like a child. He begs for recognition, for affection, for acceptance. He has hisis so own flaws: he is too proud; he objectifies everything; he is shrewd; he weighs himself too much. Yet he also gives in completely when he trusts and loves someone.
Et tu, Billy! That is the most unexpected part. For the entire time, I kept thinking that Claire (Claire*!) was the one who, so to speak, played the trick. Okay, later I learned Robert was also complicit when Claire the landlord gave away more information about her property. What was truly surprising is that Billy was also part of it!! Oh!
One thing I did not understand: why did he not ask Robert about his dealings with multiple (well, two) women at the same time.
