Wei Shaolan was one of the 200,000 "comfort women" in China during the Second World War, who were regularly raped by Japanese soldiers. In recent years, she was one of the last 32 survivors. The film calmly and gently shows her struggle – the struggle to overcome the sexual assault and her life-long struggle with extreme poverty – at the background of the beautiful and hostile mountains of Guilin province. Old age, the lack of education for women, the lack of support for victims and the ruined life of mixed heritage children are part of the topics covered in this multi-layered and extremely moving story.
