HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo said they'll be interested in her next project. "We really feel Cynthia has an important voice that belongs on HBO and we look forward to the next show she will create for us," he was quoted as saying.

Earlier this month at press tour, I asked him specifically what made low rated shows like "Tell Me You Love Me" (at a point when a second season was still expected) and "In Treatment" retained while shows with bigger buzz and audiences, such as David Milch's last two projects, "John from Cincinnati" and "Deadwood," may have been canceled before their time.

" 'In Treatment,' I think, is a show we felt creatively absolutely delivered for us on what the producers said they were going to deliver," Lombardo said. "They felt like they hadn't exhausted the storytelling there."

One no small detail for a show that ran five nights a week for nine weeks is that "it was an enormously cost-effective show."

As for "Tell Me You Love Me," Lombardo said "Cindy felt she had more stories to tell."
True the series with Jane Alexander, Sonya Walger, Michelle Borth, Ally Waker, Tim DeKay and Adam Scott got "mixed reviews," he said. But, he added, "there was a up-core audience that was absolutely devoted to the show -- another cost-effective show that, you know, seemed to be the right time to have conversations about continuing."

Ultimately, when regarding what stays and what goes, he said, "There's no one answer to that that fits all of the shows."
