Massimo Vignelli: - Life of a designer is a life of fight. Fight against the ugliness. Just like a doctor fights against disease, for us the visual disease is what we have around and what we try to do is to cure it somehow with design. - We believe that there are not many good typefaces…If I want to be really generous there is a dozen. Basically I use no more than three. - There are people that think that type should be expressive…I don’t think type should be expressive at all. I mean, I can write the word “dog” with any typeface and it doesn’t have to look like a dog. But there are people think when they write “dog” it should bark (laughs). David Carson: - Don’t confuse legibility with communication.Just because something is legible doesn’t mean it communicates and, more importantly, doesn’t mean it communicates the right thing. |
